Tim McCollum, President and COO of Lady Jane’s, caught up with a very excited Sam Skowronek to get a good look at the incredible girl who will represent Lady Jane’s in 2011:
Name (age): Samantha Skowronek (20)
Position & Location: Hair Stylist - Troy, MI
TM: Sam, first off, congratulations on being named the 2011 LJ Girl!
SS: Thank you so much! I am extremely honored to be able to represent Lady Jane’s and I am so excited for this opportunity.
TM: What initially attracted you to Lady Jane’s?
SS: I have always loved cutting men’s hair, but I wanted to be able to work in an environment that I loved as well. Lady Jane’s initially attracted me because it seemed laidback and comfortable, as well as having a professional environment.
TM: What’s your favorite thing about Lady Jane’s now?
SS: My favorite thing would have to be the clients and staff. You will never have a boring day at work. I meet amazing and new people every day. I love all of the girls I work with and all of the team work and support we share. It’s nice being able to say you love your job.
TM: What are your ambitions?
SS: In the future I plan on going back to school to finish my degree in broadcasting and public relations. Who knows maybe one day I will be your local news anchor, updating you on the latest events and promoting Lady Jane’s.
TM: Now a little more about you as a person: Who do you look up to as a role model/hero?
SS: My mom would have to be my biggest role model. She has always been a hard worker, which has been very inspirational and motivating to me. She taught me to never let anything get in the way of your goals.
TM: Favorite music?
SS: Everything, anyone that actually has talent and can sing I will listen to. My favorite artist would have to be Christina Aguilera...now that girl can sing!
TM: Favorite Nickname?
SS: "SAS" This is my first name “Samantha”, my middle name “Ann”, and my last name “Skowronek” combined. Plus it kind of describes my personality.
TM: Favorite Sports team?
SS: The Detroit Lions of course! I will always support my home team; I love all of our Detroit teams as well.
TM: What’s your philosophy on life?
SS: "When a door closes a window opens", there is always an opportunity that is waiting for you. I try to find the silver lining in everything.
TM: What are your biggest fears?
SS: Needles...I don’t do shots.
TM: What’s your favorite product for the LJ clients to use?
SS: I love the American Crew Defining Paste! It’s a great product because not only is it natural looking (which a lot of men like), but it also has a great flexible hold.
TM: Why do you think you’ll be great as the LJ Girl?
SS: I know I have only been with the company for a few months, but Lady Jane’s already feels like a second home to me. I believe in the company and the products we use and sell. That is something that is very important to me because I want to believe in everything I do. I’ve always tried to have a positive outlook on life, and do it with a smile on my face.
TM: And finally, what’s your :10 second Lady Jane’s pitch?
SS: Lady Jane’s goes above and beyond the expectations when it comes to men’s haircuts. It’s the one place men get to sit back, relax, and enjoy getting their haircut. You may never want to leave...It’s Wicked Awesome!
TM: Thanks Sam! And good luck, you’re going to be Wicked Awesome as the 2011 LJ Girl!
Samantha Skowronek is the 2011 Lady Jane's Girl!
Every great team has a great captain. At Lady Jane’s this captain is the LJ girl. This year, Lady Jane’s has selected Samantha Skowronek, from the Troy, Michigan salon. She is a captain both at work and off with her friendly, hard working, and caring personality. This is why she is our 2011 LJ girl, besides; she has first hand experience on being part of a team, she plays 1st base in softball and has a pretty good stick too!
LJ Girl: Hard Working and Fun
The LJ girl is another face for the company that symbolizes great customer service with a Wicked Awesome haircut experience. However, the LJ girl doesn’t just provide great customer service, she also goes beyond that and makes sure that all of the co-workers are having a great day and helps any way out on the cutting floor. For example, if there is a stylist that needs education on a certain type of product, or if some one wants a second option of a hair style, the LJ girl is right there to help the other stylist as much as she can. The LJ girl loves to be hard working, but after a hard day of work, having fun is the way to go! The LJ girl needs to also have a fun, exciting personality and always has a smile on her face. That’s why Samantha fits the LJ girl position so well, she loves helping others, like when she volunteers at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure or when she helps out with M.C.R.E.S.T, a program that helps the homeless. Yet, on the other hand, she loves to have fun, “I feel like I am an accomplished singer…in the shower and the car”, says Samantha. She also mentioned that she loves the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger from Wendy’s too!
Samantha’s Life Then and Now
Samantha started her hard working, yet exciting life at a very young age. In high school, her day consisted of different activities. She worked for her high school’s broadcasting and news program and was always involved in her high school plays and theater. As if that and school work wasn’t enough, she also took kickboxing classes in her spare time. The LJ girl is always busy with different activities within their day as well, from taking care of our clients during operation hours, to staying after hours to help in LJ commercials or photo shoots. But what steps did Samantha have to take to become our LJ girl? Well, it started by her graduating cosmetology school at the age of 19 and then coming into Lady Jane’s in February to apply for a stylist position. From then on, Samantha quickly became a great asset to the company, winning over the guys, being a good influence on the other stylists, and doing the little things to make her and the Troy location great. Owner Chad Johnson and Corporate Office Manager, Jennifer Golas, noticed her talent and skill immediately.
“When interviewing Sam in February for our opening stylist position, I knew that she was going to be an amazing stylist that would offer a lot to Lady Jane’s. Sam has a friendly personality and a caring heart. She adapted to the LJ environment perfectly and excelled quickly in being one of our top stylists. Her hard work is already paying off, I know she is going to be a great LJ girl for 2011”, says Golas.
Just like that, Samantha became the 2011 LJ Girl. She displays a natural ability in give Wicked Awesome haircuts. She understands what her clients are looking for and always explains what hair styles will look best on them. Sam has a lot of knowledge in the products that Lady Jane’s offer and what products will work best for each guy. President and COO, Tim McCollum, asked Sam what her favorite product is for her LJ clients and she replied saying “I love the American Crew Defining Paste! It’s a great product because not only is it natural looking, which a lot of men like, but it also has a great flexible hold!” (Check out more questions Sam answered in her interview on the left.)
Samantha has a whole year ahead of her for being the 2011 LJ girl with exciting new opportunities here at Lady Jane’s and tons of adventures outside of work. Tim asked Samantha what her perfect day would be and she answered saying “My perfect day would be an adventurous one. I am a big thrill seeker so it would have to be something I could cross off my bucket list. Whether it is sky diving or going on a hot air balloon ride, I guarantee it would be a fun day with nice weather.” Who knows, maybe she will show up at work one day being dropped off from a hot air balloon!
